Instagram is one of the biggest social media platforms out there. It seems like everyone and their mother has an Instagram account, so much that some people are genuinely surprised when they ask what someone’s Insta account is and they turn out to not have one. Maybe you happen to be one of those people that this happens to.
Instagram is a fun social experience, but there is plenty of reason not to bother making an account. Maybe social media isn’t your thing, maybe you prefer a different platform, maybe you aren’t much for taking pictures. Either way, there are plenty of people that don’t want to maintain an Instagram profile but would still like to browse other people’s accounts.
You can keep up on news from your favorite brands, see all the things your friends have gotten up to, or check out all the hottest models all without even having to download Instagram. It is the age of social media, after all. It would be a considerable slip up to keep people who want to from viewing your platform.
Using the Instagram PC Client
There is probably a sizeable amount of Instagram users that are not even aware that you can use Instagram on their computers. Not only is that a thing, but you don’t even need an account to use it.
The Instagram PC client didn’t come about until two years after the app launched, which is the reverse of how most other social media apps came about. For the most part, Instagram runs the same on a computer as on the app. Since the app was developed first, you can probably guess they aren’t entirely the same. Instagram is optimized for the app experience, meaning some features don’t work as well on the PC and a few features that are just missing from the app.
Don’t worry though, you can look at other people’s profiles just fine. However, without an account, you have to be a bit more specific with your searches. Instead of just going to the Instagram home page, type in “www.instagram.com/” followed by the name of the account you want to see. So, for instance, if you wanted to get to Tana Mongeau’s Instagram account, you’d type “www.instagram.com/tanamongeau”
Googling Instagram Accounts
This method can also be done on the PC, but it is more meant for smartphone users without Instagram accounts. This is a bit more low-maintenance than the previous method since you don’t need to know the exact name of the account you are wanting to view.
All you have to do is go to Google or any other search engine available to you. Enter the name of the person or a rough idea of the account name into the search bar followed by the phrase “Instagram account.” More often than not, as long as you are not way off with the name, you won’t have to look past the first page of the result to find who you are looking for.
So, if you were trying to find Tina Louise on Instagram, you would search “Tina Louise Instagram account” and click on the first result to get to her account.
This method is especially useful for trying to find highly popular Instagram influencers since search engines would be likely to suggest their accounts as results anyway. If you are trying to find a smaller account such as a friend or a more niche celebrity, then you might have to dig around more.
Using a Friends Instagram Account
This sounds a bit odd, and admittedly it isn’t the most convenient option. Most people aren’t likely to give out their account information, but if someone trusts you with it then it is certainly an option.
In a less extreme version of this, you can borrow a friend’s phone to use the Instagram app while the two of you are hanging out. It still requires a good deal of trust, so don’t ask this of someone you don’t know well.
Online Viewing Tools
If there is anything you can count on from the internet, it’s that plenty of people will create the perfect gadget for even the most unexpected scenarios.
If you happen to be someone that wants to view Instagram accounts, but completely refuses to use Instagram in any way, then you are in luck. There are plenty of Instagram web viewers that can do just that.
You can find a bunch of different applications that will do the job perfectly. More often than not, these services are free with a few hoops to jump through or annoying ads. If you plan to be using an Insta web viewer often, it can be worth the small investment of getting a premium service.
Web viewers often come with specialized search tools as well, so you can navigate Instagram accounts more elegantly than the app itself on occasion. You can search based on things like bio information, follower counts, and locations.
A Case For Making an Instagram Account
As stated previously, there is nothing wrong with not wanting to have an Instagram account, so if you feel strongly about the matter, feel free to ignore this section.
That being said, if you want to view Instagram accounts, it is only for your benefit to make one for yourself. It takes less than ten minutes to make an account, and you never have to put any work into it unless you want to.
Even with all the tools mentioned above, viewing Instagram is so much easier with an account. For one, in the web browser, you can examine individual posts and see comments unless you have an account. You can do this while browsing from your phone, but Instagram stops you from being able to scroll down too far unless you are logged into an account.
Plus, if you are trying to view private Instagram accounts, it is much harder to get access to them without an account of your own. This is a challenge that not even using a friend’s account can fix easily.
Again, how you use the internet and social media is your choice, and no one has the right to tell you what to do. All of the methods listed above will work if you are insistent on not having an Instagram profile. The bottom line, though, an Instagram account makes for a much better viewing experience at the cost of little to no extra work.
